Like many, I faced my own health crises after eating a Standard American Diet for more than 40 years of my life. Even though I exercised and tried to eat "healthy", I developed a couple of rounds of abnormal cell changes on mammograms that could potentially become malignant if ignored. After one minor surgery and faced with the need for long-term medication, I couldn't ignore that I was at the most unhealthy point in my life, seeing doctors for other issues as well.
I am blessed with an amazing husband and four beautiful children and instinctively understood that I needed to actively participate in the restoration of my own wellness. Immediately, I stopped eating anything ultra-processed. I added in more vegetables and fruits, drank only water and tea, and addressed my movement, sleep habits, and stress management. A serious health scare is a powerful motivator! Three months later, I lost weight (a total of 40 lbs eventually, which I have maintained!) and had a clean mammogram to the amazement of my doctor! I was very fortunate!

One year later, my wise sister revealed that she started following a vegan diet. Although doing my best to eat only high quality meat and dairy, I knew that I shouldn't be consuming animal hormones at all in light of my health situation. However, instead of a vegan diet, I pursued a Whole Food Plant-Based (WFPB) diet. My overall health dramatically improved as I noticed that my joint pain was relieved, oddball health issues abated, migraines greatly subsided, inflammation calmed, and I generally felt and looked healthier than ever. My brilliant daughter (now a doctor!) also started eating WFPB and we savor the camaraderie of sharing amazing recipes and cooking delicious meals together.
Integral to my learning process, I leaned into the wisdom of plant-based gurus like Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michael Greger, and so many more. I earned a program certificate from eCornell/T. Colin Campbell (author of The China Study) for Plant-Based Nutrition to further my knowledge so I could share it with others.

I looooove feeling comfortable and nourished after a meal (even after dining out and when traveling) and not sick to my stomach and full of regret. I no longer dread picture taking moments with family and friends. I am active and love to bike, hike, walk, play pickleball, shop for new clothes, and just enjoy life.
Learning to eat a new way is like learning a new language. A little daunting at first, but a rewarding accomplishment when mastered. I can show you how to embrace the love language of the healthy food that will fuel and heal your body. I am constantly learning about real life applications and I offer the best of what I have discovered to give you shortcuts in your own journey.
Consuming a WFPB diet means filling yourself with nutrient-dense, delicious food to restore your health, not starving yourself. Together, we will tackle the most common pitfalls and make sense of the contradicting information out there, even in the plant-based world. For local Pittsburgh peeps, I am also a co-Leader for the non-profit community group, Plant-Based Pittsburgh South. We meet every 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Green Tree Library from 6:00-7:15 pm for free education and support. Additional in-person and recorded learning sessions are also available from our parent organization in Murrysville, Plant-Based Pittsburgh, where I am a member of the Board of Directors. I also offer Mentoring workshops via Zoom that will help guide your path toward a health-promoting plant-inclusive lifestyle. While we will talk about the health benefits of plant nutrition, I will primarily share with you practical ways to bring more healthy plants and healthy living into your everyday life. Drawing from personal experience, learning, and research, I will provide you with shortcuts to your own understanding of key factors for making plant food an integral part of your healthy lifestyle. Community support from the group will be instrumental to your individual ongoing success.
Healthy Eating Strategies will meet live over Zoom for an hour for 4 consecutive weeks. The class size limit is 6. Targeted content will be presented (such as plant-based nutrition basics, motivation mindset, food prep/planning, meal suggestions, ingredient swaps) with time for Q&A at the end of each class. Recipes and resources will also be shared. Ongoing group communication via GroupMe available. See the links below for current openings.

Navigating the Holiday Season is a one day live Zoom Session for 90 minutes. We will explore tips for navigating the holiday season indulgence, recipe ideas, resources, and Q&A. Class size limit is 25.
